We
are so pleased to now be a part of Global Outreach International as Missionary
Project Coordinators to Honduras. For
many years we have prayed about how God would have us serve Him in Honduras and
are excited for this new stage of our journey.
For the past few years we have had the opportunity,
through our church, to lead teams to Honduras to work and serve the Lord
there. This past summer as we were in
Honduras the Lord really began to speak to us.
He wanted more than just a week every year. He showed us where we could be involved, partnering
with the local church in Honduras.
Through these ministries we hope to share Christ with the lost and
encourage our brothers and sisters to keep working for the Kingdom.
There
are two things we believe the Lord has given us to do as we work in Honduras.
1) To reach
the lost for Christ and encourage the local Honduran church to evangelize and
disciple their friends and neighbors. Also, to support them in ministry
opportunities that they may not normally have due to lack of financial
resources.
2) To
provide and facilitate an outlet for our friends and neighbors to serve
alongside brothers and sisters in Honduras, sharing Christ and His love.
We
feel like the Lord has already given us several ways to do this and are
continually in prayer that He will provide many more opportunities for service.
The
first way we see the Lord using us is through teams. We want to take as many teams as would like
to go to serve in Honduras. As we go
with a team our avenue of ministry may change, but no matter what our physical
labor is, we always go with the mission to share Christ through evangelism and
to encourage the local church as they reach out to their community to share
Christ’s love.
The
second thing the Lord has provided for ministry is a feeding center.
Missionaries who were previously working in the area established feeding
centers for the children of nearby villages and towns. The financial support for the ministry came
through the missionaries to purchase rice and beans and to provide fuel for
cooking. The mothers of the children who ate at the center worked on a rotation
volunteering to cook the food each day the children were in school. As the missionaries are no longer serving in
the area many of the feeding centers are not in operation. We would like to see this ministry in action
again. Through your financial gifts, you
can have an investment in this ministry, funding it on a monthly basis. We would hire a woman to oversee the day to
day operation of the center, making sure there are mothers lined up to cook
each day and to be sure the food is there for them to cook. She would also oversee a group of volunteers
that would come into the center while the children are there to share a Bible
story and songs with them. We hope to
see this ministry open by February of 2016 when the new school year begins in
Honduras.
Along
with these we would like to enlarge a scholarship ministry we have been
involved with the past few years. Since
we went with our first team to Honduras in 2012, we have administered a
scholarship fund to offer financial aid to young people. In Honduras children are only required to
attend school through 6th grade.
They may continue on to high school if they have the money. This makes educational opportunities hard to
come by for many young people. Through a
scholarship ministry they are provided an opportunity to continue their
education. We would connect them with a
local church and have people in that church ready to mentor and encourage the
young person through their teenage years.
Through your financial investments in this ministry, an education could
be provided to a young person and Christ will be made known to them.
