Honduras in July

The construction of the home - before to after.

From Lety, a faithful leader and member of Iglesia Getsemaní in Buenos Aires, Honduras:
One day last year I was talking with Sister Lourdes and we realized we had not seen Sister Toña in church for several weeks, so we decided to go visit her.  We went and talked with her.  She didn’t have to tell us, we could see for ourselves that she was in need of help for a house.  Her husband had left her and their children with half built walls of cement block that was supposed to be their home.  The house they lived in at the time was made of pieces of wood, plastic, and some sheets of metal.  When it rained it got wet inside and when it was cold they could not stay warm.  But she also told us of the need to have her septic hole covered.  We knew that Sister Teresa was making a list for her brother of people in need of floors in their home or repairs on their septic holes.  He was coming in a few weeks with a mission team from his church in the United States.  She had already talked to Teresa about the septic hole, but the list was full so Toña was put on a waiting list.  We prayed with her that day and urged her to return to church fellowship.  I continued to pray for her, asking the Lord to provide a way for her and her children to have a proper home.

A few weeks later the team came with Teresa’s brother, Renan.  They worked alongside our church and together we reached many in our community.  We had new people coming to church even after the team left.  It was a wonderful time of service to the Lord.

The week after the team was gone I was standing in the back of my house washing clothes.  As I washed, I prayed and as usual I lifted up Toña to the Lord.  I knew the Lord would provide for her, we just needed to be patient and wait on His timing.  As I opened my eyes I saw Teresa, her father Lucio, and another brother of hers, Antonio, who builds houses, walk past my house towards the area where Toña lives.  The Spirit told me to continue to pray because the Lord was working for Toña that very moment.  So, I prayed.

Some days later I was blessed to find out that Renan would be back the next year.  He would bring with him a team from his church to finish the building of Toña’s house!  And here we are.  We are seated inside the Lord’s answer to our prayer.  And so we praise Him for His goodness and faithfulness.  We fill this home with praises to Him.  And we thank him because Toña’s husband, Herman, has returned to his family.  My heart overflows with joy for the Lord’s blessings.

Friends, this story was shared at a service we held in the new home that was built and we could think of no better way to convey what the Lord accomplished during our time in Honduras than to share Lety’s story with you.  Not only was a home provided, but more importantly the Lord was glorified.  He is so good and forever faithful.  We thank each and every one of you who, through the leading of the Holy Spirit and your faithfulness to the Lord, gave to this project and prayed for the team while we were in Honduras.  It is a wonderful testimony of how the Lord was already working long before you even thought of sending in a check, going to a paint party fundraiser, or dropping some money in a house shaped collection box at an ice cream social after church.  Thank you!
Service of thanksgiving for their new home.

While the men did the hard work on the house, the ladies got to do the fun work of VBS!  We had a great time of learning, singing, playing games, and snacks!  Each day we were able to share about salvation through Christ with 50-60 children.  Then at the end of the week the children shared a song in the worship service and what they had learned in their Bible study each day.  It was a great week!

A fun filled week of Vacation Bible School!

And here are a few more pictures from our week:

In the works...

After the team left our family was able to stay another week.  We began making plans for the opening of the feeding center in Buenos Aires by February 2016.  There are some repairs and upgrades that need to be made in order to make the building more secure.  We are so thankful the Lord has provided a team from Western Kentucky University that will travel with us in January to Honduras to work on the feeding center.

We look forward to the opening of this ministry in 2016 and wait in anticipation to see how the Lord is going to work in the lives of the children who will receive a meal each day and hear the gospel proclaimed.

As with any ministry, it takes prayer and financial support to work.  The work the Lord has given us in Honduras is no different.  It not only takes people to participate in the work, but also partners praying and giving each month to support the needs of the ministry.  We are currently seeking ministry partners for our ministry in Honduras.  Would you consider partnering with what the Lord is doing in this area of Honduras?

Pray.  Just as we saw in Lety’s story, the Lord does answer our prayers.  Please consider praying for the work in Honduras.  The power of prayer is amazing and allows us to join the Lord in kingdom work! What an awesome privilege He allows us to take part in.

Give.  Invest $20, $50, $100 each month.  No gift is too small or too big.  The Lord takes what we give with a cheerful heart and multiplies it.  Please see below for giving options.

Go.  We can all pray.  There are some that God has called to partner financially with this ministry.  Then there are those He asks to go.  We would love to talk with you about being part of a group working in Honduras.
